Explanation of Domain Names: Registration, Transfer, Cancellation, Security and Management

Below we explain the key aspects of using and managing domain names:

Registration
To use a domain name, you must first register it through a domain registration provider (registrar), such as Magnifiek Hosting. During registration, you pay an annual fee to reserve and maintain the domain name.

Transfer
If you want to switch to another registrar, you can transfer your domain name. This process moves the registration from your current registrar to a new one. To complete the transfer, you need a transfer code (also called an auth code or EPP code). You can request this from your current registrar and provide it to the new registrar.

Cancellation
If you no longer wish to keep a domain name, you may cancel it. This ends the registration.
After cancellation, the domain usually enters a quarantine period (typically about 50 days). After this period, the domain becomes available for registration again by others.

Security

Proper domain security is essential to prevent theft or misuse. You can improve security by:
Enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on your registrar account
Keeping your contact details up to date
Using strong passwords
Enabling domain locking to prevent unauthorized changes

Domain Privacy (WHOIS Privacy)

This helps reduce spam, phishing attempts, and identity theft.
